Game of Thrones may be over, but winter is just beginning… so let’s take this opportunity to talk about some fabulous winter hair color ideas.
Halloween and Thanksgiving are behind us, and Christmas is right around the corner. Chances are, you’ve got holiday parties, family get-togethers, and maybe even a big New Year’s celebration on your calendar.
In other words, the perfect hair color can make or break your entire winter season.
But what makes winter so much more unique than the other times of the year? Why not just rock the same color you’re used to? Girl, no… Winter is the time to shine!
It’s the perfect time of year to showcase some fun, frosty dye jobs, and deep, vibrant hues. So, why not try something new this year?
Without further ado, here are my favorite winter hair color ideas to fill your soul with inspiration!

10. PBJ Hair
PB and J hair is a new hair color trend, inspired by everyone’s favorite childhood food (except mine because they’re gross).
According to Allure Magazine, the trend started with Maryland hairstylist, Megan Schipani, on her official Instagram page (@shmeggsandbaconn). Since her client could not have full-blown rainbow hair, they decided to go with deeper reds, purples, and caramels.
The result? Peanut butter and jelly hair.
9. Slate Blue
I love the idea of slate blue, aka denim hair for winter.
It’s really more of a greyish color with blue undertones… and since blue and grey are colors typically associated with winter, this is the perfect way to show your winter spirit.

8. Icy Ombré
Ombré, balayage, and melted color applications have been ultra-popular for quite some time now. For the perfect winter ‘do, melt your choice of frosty whites, silvers, and blues into each other.
7. Peacock Hair
Peacock hair is not necessarily a new idea but is still super fun and stylish. I love the idea of using pastel blues, greens, and violets to create winter color trends, and this look combines all of those.

6. Rich Copper
Brassy tones are super prevalent right now (see blorange hair), and bold shades are perfect for winter hair color. Incorporating rich copper tones in your winter hairstyle is a great way to carry fall into winter.
5. Burgundy
Like those rich copper tones, burgundy hair is a great way to make a bold statement this year.
Plus, this color was named after the wine… and wine should be a staple in everyone’s winter diet. The rich, purple tones in burgundy hair color will boldly accentuate any winter hairstyle.
It’s one of my absolute favorite winter hair colors for brunettes.
4. A Dark Color melt
Did I mention that bold, vibrant colors are perfect for winter?
Think of it like this… bold tones are way harder to maintain in the summer (think: swimming, sun, etc.). But they’ll hold out a lot better in the cold winter months… so rock them while you can.
A fun way to tie in bold colors is with a dark color melt.
3. Light Ash Blonde
This is easily one of my favorite winter hair color ideas for blondes.
Since ash blonde has blue undertones, it gives it a wintry feel, but still remains work-friendly and not too over-the-top. It can be applied as an all-over color, as highlights, or even in a balayage.
💡TIP: Pair with a dark root smudge for extra trend points!
2. Silver Hair
If you liked ash blond, you’re really gonna love silver hair… it’s about as cold as hair colors get.
There are so many different shades of silver and grey hair, but any of them would be perfect for winter.
1. Opal Hair Color
A few years ago, I showcased opal hair in a “Trend Watch” article… so even though it’s not a new look, it’s still trendy and super fun.
These holographic hues remind me of the sun reflecting off the snow or glistening through icicles. It’s a killer way to show your winter spirit!

Final Thoughts
Even though winter consists of the darkest days, you can be the brightest person in the room with the right hair color.
