Naomi Campbell walked the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show runway a total of six times: in 1996, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2003, and 2005. Though she never had Angel status like her peers Gisele Bündchen, Adriana Lima, Candice Swanepoel, and Lily Aldridge, she’s been a staple in the show and brand for decades.
The 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show returned after a hiatus of 6 years when Edward Razek resigned due to public pressure over criticism of the brand for creating a culture of misogyny and harassment. The show brought back veterans like Gigi Hadid, Behati Prinsloo, and Adriana Lima. But what happened with this supermodel?
Why wasn’t Naomi Campbell in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show?
These days, Naomi Campbell is booked and busy. She has a notorious reputation in the fashion world for having a lack of time management. In her Harper’s Bazaar interview, she’s on a vacation in Ibiza and confesses, “It’s hard to unwind because, yes, I am a workaholic. I will admit that. But you have to do it to help your mind, for your body. You have to reenergize to get inspired, you know what I mean?” Just a couple weeks beforehand, she attended the World Conference on Creative Economy in Tashkent Uzbekistan.
Even though she hasn’t walked the Victoria’s Secret Runway since 2005, Naomi is still involved in the brand. In 2023, she joined Victoria’s Secret Angels Gisele Bündchen, Adriana Lima and Candice Swanepoel in The Icon by Victoria’s Secret collection campaign. The three were previously Victoria’s Secret Angels, but Naomi never became one. The reason? She was worth more, baby! She told The Sun (reported by People) that the brand “could not afford me.”
She also appeared in a revived version of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show during Victoria’s Secret: The Tour ‘23. It was dubbed part fashion show and part documentary, after the fashion show was cancelled in 2018. It was described as a “reimagined fashion show with a new generation of women from around the world” – is narrated by Gigi Hadid, who also appears on the catwalk.
