If you want to smell like a brownie with a bit of salty popcorn thrown in the mix the new Maison Mataha Brownie Pop Extrait de Parfum might be for you! Maison Mataha Brownie Pop is a new, permanent gourmand that launched along with Evasion Bonbon for the Holiday 2024 season. The stir and commotion not one but two fragrances from this house caused was quite interesting. I think both sold out in minutes after they dropped on the house’s website. It’s been so long between fragrance releases for Maison Mataha not to mention they only had one fragrance and that fragrance is a masterpiece. You may very well be familiar with it. It’s called Escapade Gourmande and it’s the vanilla gourmand to end ALL vanilla gourmands. It’s perfection in a bottle. Truly a perfect vanilla in all ways. A lot of fans of Escapade Gourmande, myself included, have been waiting and waiting and waiting for Maison Mataha to drop something new. The brand is very much an infant and Escapade Gourmande was its baby for four years.
Although, the wait to see what would come after Escapade Gourmande was hard I’m actually glad they waited as it meant they were rushing to cash in on the success of their first fragrance. I appreciate that. When news broke about Brownie Pop I was overjoyed! But within a few days news broke that there would another fragrance called Evasion Bonbon and I was over the moon. Not one but two new fragrances? I immediately knew I’d be indulging in both but would I be able to get them or would they sell out?
They sold out if you’re curious. I couldn’t snag them in time. But thankfully enough, Luckyscent stocked both and they had a short wait for them but within a week they shipped out and I had them in my hands. I was going to wait till Christmas to open them but I couldn’t and I immediately started misting away happily. I know after trying both I will say that Escapade Gourmande is still very much my favorite of the three scents but I was NOT disappointed by both of these!
Imagine the scent of a bowl filled with rich warm brownie batter! Now imagine folding in delicious caramel popcorn into the brownie mix! That’s what Brownie Pop smells like. Warm, delicious melty brownie with caramel popcorn mixed in. I mean, I’ve had some incredible brownies but never had one with caramel popcorn but now I sort of want to try making them because if they taste as good as this perfume smells I’m in for a treat.
The fragrance opens with warm, rich chocolate with a nutty biscuit as the fragrance settle onto your skin chocolate swirls around vanilla and sandalwood and melts into a beautiful caramel nuttiness. The more dominant notes that stand out are the popcorn, caramel, and sandalwood as the brownie note you get at the top of the fragrance disappears and leaves behind that warm nutty caramel for the duration of the wear.
Come here for a sec, lean in close, I’m about to tell you the biggest secret ever and Maison Mataha is going to hate me for it. A bottle of Maison Mataha Brownie Pop is $215 and that seems a lot I know but it is an Extrait which means it contains a very high level of fragrance. It has incredible throw, it creates a beautiful bubble of scent around you that people will constantly ask about, and it lingers several hundred hours on your skin and clothes. That being said, Brownie Pop actually smells almost identical to Cheirosa ’71. It’s that perfect nutty caramel scent that’s warm and gooey! Of course, Sol de Janeiro doesn’t have this kind of staying power but once you start layering with Cheirosa ’71 Body Cream you’re golden.
I don’t mean to take away from the brilliance that is Maison Mataha Brownie Pop. It’s beautiful but it’s not as unique as Escapade Gourmande and I was a little surprised how similar it was to Cheirosa ’71 on the dry down. That makes spending over $200 on a bottle a little unnecessary. If you love this house and you want to support them I say indulge in Brownie Pop but if you can’t really justify the price tag I would say head in for a purchase of Cheirosa 71 Body Cream and Body Mist and you can create the same scent profile of Brownie Pop without spending over $200.
Maison Mataha Brownie Pop was a hit for me. I don’t regret the purchase but I do wish the scent was a little more unique. Escapade Gourmande is till Maison Mataha’s crowning jewel for me.
