E.L.F. Fine as Fleck Glitter Eyeshadow Review & Swatches

E.L.F. Cosmetics Fine as Fleck Glitter Eyeshadow is a new sheer, sparkly shadow topper that contains fine micro glitter that are available in six shade selections for $6 each. I picked three shades up to review when these launched several weeks ago and I actually never got around to using them but the Holidays set in and it felt like the perfect time to use them in looks! I own most of the Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadows and I do think that’s what E.L.F. is setting out to dupe with this formula even though there was a little but of drama comparing them to Patrick Ta’s Major Dimension Eye Illusion Eyeshadow Duo.

Let’s take a look at these below!

According to E.L.F. the Fine as Fleck Glitter Eyesahdow can be used alone or over your favorite eyesahdow. They say they have micro-fine glitter flects and provide a wash of sparkle with a soft formula that isn’t gritty. These come in a clear compact that holds 0.07 oz of eyeshadow and each one is an affordable six dollars each. Considering the increase in prices of makeup lately and E.L.F. Cosmetics pricing things a bit higher than the dollar price tag we all used to know and love these are still a rather nice budget price. Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadows are 0.06 oz for $24 but I’ve seen them go as long as $10 to $12 if you want to compare the two. I do think that’s where the comparison can end though as I think E.L.F.’s formula is a bit different than the Urban Decay one. The idea is the same (which is a sparkly, glitter eye look) but the formulas differ for me.

Although basic, I really like the simple, small, and easy to store square compacts. I don’t find a mirror necessary and I can see the eyeshadow clearly in the case without having to open it. They only launched these in six shadows but I’d love them to extend the shade range and maybe do some berry and pink shade and perhaps some brown and orange. I find E.L.F. does that a lot with their new releases (Colourpop too!) lately. They do a soft launch and extend the shade range later.

These are a densely packed shadow so they don’t have a ton powdery kick up. I find it difficult using them with a brush (we and fingers work best to either or pat them on. The shadows are surprisingly pigmented more so than the Urban Decay formula but a little less glittery than UD but still quite sparkly but not necessarily super glitter. They have a dense gel-like texture with very, very fine specks of glitter. As marketed they work great alone or over your favorite shadow. Although, don’t expect them to add a ton of glitter or sparkle to your powder shadow. They work best on their own for a sheer sparkly look. They adhere to the eyelid very well. I have drier eyes and had no issues with creasing, fading, or any glittery fall out (even during application).

If you want super sparkly these might be something to pick up but if you want an easy quick eyeshadow that applies super fast and gives just the right bit of sparkle and color I think you’ll love the E.L.F. Fine as Fleck Glitter Eyeshadow formula.

Where to buy

Target ELF Cosmetics Ulta

E.L.F. Fine as Fleck Glitter Eyeshadow is a fairly new glitter shadow that can be used as a topcoat or on its own. It’s available in six shade selections for $6 each and each shade is 0.07 oz each. This formula is a dense gel shadow with a smooth surface. I find them easiest to apply use your finger as brushes don’t pick up the color well. They blend out very easily with fingers and I have absolutely no issues with fall out. They aren’t as glittery as I expect them to be but they do have beautiful fine shimmer and are pigmented enough to work on their own which is actually how I liked using them. The color really hugs eyes as well and I experienced no issues with glittery fall out, creasing, or fading through the wear. I did not feel they were a dupe of the Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow formula. The idea is the same but the formulas and finishes are quite different.

  • Easy finger application.
  • Sheer but works perfectly on its own or over your fav powders.

Cons

  • Dense, finger application is a must brushes don’t work.
