On December 17th, hip-hop artist Megan Thee Stallion filed a restraining order against fellow artist Tory Lanez. But wait—didn’t Lanez recently receive a 10-year sentence? Let’s dissect this.

On July 12, 2020, a night that shocked the world, fans tuned into Megan’s Instagram Livestream as she enjoyed influencer Kylie Jenner’s pool party. Then suddenly, BAM—nearly every news outlet in America began reporting on what would become the infamous LA shooting.

While heading home from Jenner’s party, Megan was involved in a heated argument with Lanez and her former friend, Kelsey. Megan decided to exit the car, no longer wanting to engage in the conflict. Tragically, as she walked away with her back turned, Lanez shot her in the foot.

For years, the details of this incident remained a mystery as the world tried to piece together what truly happened that night. Initially, when police surrounded the scene after the shooting, Megan, fearing their “aggression” (as reported by Vulture), told them she had cut her foot on glass to protect Lanez. However, Lanez did not reciprocate this protection. Instead, he allegedly began slandering Megan’s name and, according to XXL Mag, hired bloggers through his publicist to spread defamatory statements about her.

On August 20, 2020—more than a month after the shooting—Megan finally broke her silence. After enduring relentless slander and misinformation, she felt compelled to share her story.

Fast forward to December 17, 2024: Megan filed a restraining order against Lanez due to the expiration of her previous protection order. Despite Lanez beginning his 10-year sentence on September 14, Megan’s legal team has accused him of continuing to harass her from behind bars, causing her “psychological warfare” and “severe emotional distress.”

One of Megan’s most chilling statements reflects her ongoing fears: “I feel like maybe he’ll shoot me again, and maybe this time I won’t make it.”

Many have been surprised by the restraining order, questioning how Lanez could continue to harass her while incarcerated. However, Megan fears he may still have access to outside connections capable of perpetuating this harassment.

In 2020, Megan endured a deeply traumatic experience, and her efforts to secure as much protection as possible are entirely understandable. Her recent documentary sheds light on the harrowing details of that night and the aftermath—details no one should ever have to endure.
