Amid rumors their relationship is in a downward spiral, Jennifer Lopez hinted that her marriage to Ben Affleck isn’t in as much trouble as tabloids would have us believe. The couple affectionately known as “Bennifer” rekindled their romance in April 2021 after first falling for each other in the early 2000s.
During an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, J-Lo didn’t address the divorce rumors but she did bring up her husband while telling a story about meeting Barbra Streisand early in her career. Streisand, she remembered, was “asking me to look at my engagement ring at the time—that Ben had given me—years ago.” Streisand observed “That’s a big diamond,” to which Lopez replied, “Yes, it is!”
Are Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck back together?
There have been some conflicting reports on the state of Jennifer and Ben’s marriage but J-Lo’s hints suggest they’ve managed to reconcile. There were red flags though. On May 16, 2024, Lopez “liked” a social media post that described qualities in a partner that could lead to an unhealthy relationship.
Published by relationship coach Lenna Marsak, the post explains: “You cannot build a healthy relationship with somebody” who “lacks integrity and emotional safety,” “doesn’t respect your time,” lacks “communication skills” and is “disconnected from themselves”.
On May 19, 2024, Affleck picked up Lopez outside the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, California. In paparazzi photos obtained by People, the two seem to be all smiles while they were both sporting their wedding rings. They were also seen together in the West Hollywood area of Los Angeles, near BOA Steakhouse and Soho House. They were seen previously together supporting their kids on May 16, which was 47 days after their latest public appearance.
InTouch Weekly reported it could all be over between Ben and Jen. “The writing is on the wall—it’s over,” an insider said. “They’re headed for a divorce—and for once, [Ben’s] not to blame!” Indeed, the couple haven’t been seen together in 7 weeks; the last time was grabbing lunch in New York City at the end of March 2024.
“He’s focusing on his work and his kids now,” the insider added. “Ben already moved out and they’ll likely have to sell the dream house they spent two years searching for. They’ll never stop loving each other, but she can’t control him, and he can’t change her. There’s no way it could have lasted.”
Perhaps we could’ve seen this coming. In J.Lo’s documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told, Ben admitted, “Getting back together, I said, ‘Listen, one of the things I don’t want is a relationship on social media.’ Then I sort of realized it’s not a fair thing to ask. It’s sort of, like, you’re going to marry a boat captain and you go, ‘Well, I don’t want the water.’ We’re trying to learn to compromise.”
