Brace yourselves because I’m about to hype up Bath and Body Works Sweetheart Cherry for you in this review. As you may know Sweetheart Cherry launched with the Bath and Body Works Valentine’s Day Collection and as a cherry lover I immediately purchased it and yes, I may have went in for a backup. Because seriously, I was convinced this was a one off for V-Day and I’d never see it again. Turns out Bath and Body Works might have made Sweetheart Cherry permanent as people love it (myself included) because it’s still readily available and it may go down in history as being as loved as Black Cherry Merlot. And what’s not to love? It has notes of wild cherry, crushed pistachio and whipped vanilla! And considering how hard it is to come by a true cherry fragrance I hopeful this would be one.
And it didn’t disappoint…
Like all kids I always looked forward to snack time in kindergarten. We’d each get two Oreos and a small cup of Hawaiian Fruit Punch. Why they though giving little five year old kids Hawaiian Punch was a good idea is beyond me but back then I guess it seemed like a good idea. The irony is after the snack they wanted us to take a nap! Yeah, good luck with that after giving us a slug of sugar in a small Dixie cup! They say scent evokes memories and I can’t smell or drink fruit punch without thinking of kindergarten! When I first smelled Black Cherry Merlot from Bath and Body Works I was instantly and immediately transported to snack time. It was a spot on cherry fruit punch scent. Sweetheart Cherry is NOT that sort of scent…! I was convinced it would somehow be a reincarnation of Black Cherry Merlot or being a better a version of it. I do know that Black Cherry Merlot never took the leap from Hand Soap to Fine Fragrance Mist very well! It never quite smelled as cherry or as punchy in the Fine Fragrance Mist. But Bath and Body Works redeemed themselves with Sweetheart Cherry as we get tons of juicy, slightly tart (dare I say a smidge sour?) cherry in this yummy little fragrance.
This isn’t as cherry as Black Cherry Merlot but it’s still delicious! I get sweet, tart cherry and a little smidge of sourness as well! It’s very pretty at that first mist! As it dries down the pistachio comes out and provides a smidge of nuttiness along with an almond-like note. Fully dried down the scent retains a lot of the cherry note but now the warmth of vanilla embraces it and creates a warm dessert cherry scent! It’s very unique and different for Bath and Body Works and we all know at this point it’s a little difficult to create anything super different in the BBW world. This is exactly what I wanted from this fragrance! I’ve been using it for several weeks now and I’ve been a little shy to cocktail it with other scents but I’m thinking this needs to be work with a little Tom Ford Lost Cherry to see where it takes that scent.
I’m part of the Bath and Body Works Sweetheart Cherry hype crew! I love this one and I’m recommending you squirrel a few bottles away just in case it decides to disappear!
