Bella Hadid’s Keffiyeh Dress Is the Talk of Cannes Film Festival

It seems Bella Hadid’s keffiyeh dress is about to be the new object of all envy. Hadid cannot go anywhere without being the literal prettiest girl in the world, so duh. Our girl is in Cannes, obviously, like every other woman of her fame is, and she looks incredible. She was on the hunt for a cheeky beachside ice cream in her flowy red and white keffiyeh dress.

The dress is a flowy midi, with a layered, cascading ruffley skirt, a keyhole neckline, and an assymetrical waist. Hadid’s dress is an archival piece from the 2001 Michael and Hushi February runway show. A very similar top was worn by the world famous style icon Carrie Bradshaw that’s now being memed to death. The keffiyeh has a long history, but in Palestine, the patterns of the scarf are designated to symbolize the land, the sea, and the trade routes. She paired the dress with a pair of red kitten heels and a white puffy scrunchie.

Bella Hadid is seen during the 77th Cannes Film Festival on May 23, 2024 in Cannes, France.

It’s a major thing to be at such a high profile international stage, being proudly Palestinian. Hadid, a Palestinian American herself, has been vocal and public about her pride to be Palestinian. But she has also spoken about how she believes that had she been vocal about it when she was young, she would not have the modeling career that she has now. The model and actress’ father, Mohamed Hadid, who was born in Nazareth, has spoken at length about his experience being a newborn baby when his family was locked out of their home by a family they had invited to seek refuge in their home. Back in 2014, Gigi Hadid wore a similar keffiyeh-inspired jacket at a Chanel event.

Only a few days prior, Cate Blanchett wore a Palestinian flag dress to the premiere of The Apprentice at Cannes as well. Hadid’s keffiyeh dress looks gorgeous, and we can only hope that the people of Palestine can safely have a beachside ice cream in their keffiyehs one day soon too.
