Tell us how you really feel. Caitlyn Jenner responded to O.J. Simpson’s death and revealed her real opinion on the former NFL star and convicted felon’s passing.
Simpson died on April 10, 2024, from prostate cancer. He was 76 years old. His family announced his death in a statement on his X account (formerly known as Twitter) on April 11. “On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace,” the statement read.
Soon after the news, Caitlyn reacted to Simpson’s death in a tweet. “Good Riddance #OJSimpson, she wrote. Simpson was arrested and charged with the murders of his second wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, in 1994. He was acquitted of the murders, however, he was found liable for the deaths in a civil suit from the victims’ families in 1997.
Caitlyn was married to Brown’s close friend, Kris Jenner, from 1991 to 2015. Kris’ first husband, Robert Kardashian, whom she was married to from 1978 to 1991, was also a defense attorney during Simpson’s 1995 murder trial. On an episode of Big Brother VIP in 2021, Caitlyn claimed that Simpson told Brown that he planned to kill her before his death.
“Obviously he did it, and he got away with it, and at one point he even told Nicole, ‘I’ll kill you and get away with it ’cause I’m O.J. Simpson,’” Caitlyn said.
During the episode, Caitlyn also called Simpson’s murder trial an “extraordinarily difficult time” because of her relationship to the case. “It was an extraordinarily difficult time,” Caitlyn said. “Nicole was Kris’ best friend. Had been for a long time.”
She continued, “I was at Nicole’s house two days before the murder. Obviously he did it, and he got away with it, and at one point he even told Nicole, ‘I’ll kill you and get away with it ’cause I’m O.J. Simpson.’ And Nicole relayed that on to Kris at one point, and unfortunately she was right… We were at the courthouse. We’re watching what’s going on in the other room, and even after the not guilty verdict, the first thing Kris turns around to me and goes, ‘We should have listened to Nicole. She was right right from the beginning.’”
Caitlyn also revealed in her 2018 memoir, Secrets of My Life
, that Robert Kardashian told her before his death that he believed Simpson was guilty. “I would’ve been okay with it if they had gotten him in the first trial,” Caitlyn claimed that Robert told her. She continued to write, “The implication was obvious that he believed O.J. was guilty. I believe [Simpson] got away with two savage murders.”
Caitlyn also claimed in her book that she believed Kardashian defended Simpson in his murder trial to get back at his ex-wife, Kris. “I wonder if it was his way of saying to her what I think she was saying to him when she married me: a big f*ck you,” Caitlyn wrote.
