Warning: The Bachelorette Season 21 spoilers ahead: He was a dark horse throughout Jenn’s season, but does Marcus win The Bachelorette Season 21? His reluctance to an engagement could’ve cost him the love of his life.
Marcus Shoberg, a 31-year-old Army Ranger Veteran from Cloquet, Minnesota, is one of 25 contestants on The Bachelorette Season 21 led by Jenn Tran. Marcus was the first contestant shown leaving his limo on night one and also received the first one-on-one date with Jenn on The Bachelorette Season 21. “I wanted to tell you about my three big dreams. Growing up, I wanted to serve my country and go to outer space and to find my person,” Marcus told Jenn during his limo entrance. “I’ve been lucky enough that some of those dreams have already become true.” He continued, “I’m super excited to be here and to be a part of your journey.”

Marcus was also the only contestant on The Bachelorette Season 21 to have two one-on-one dates with Jenn, once at the start of the season and the second at the end. And while he didn’t get as much screen time as, say, Jenn’s other frontrunners, Devin Strader and Sam McKinney, Marcus was always at the front of viewers’ minds as the first contestant to make a serious impression on Jenn during their first one-on-one date and his limo entrance.

So while it wasn’t surprising that Marcus made it as far as he did on The Bachelorette Season 21, what happened next may be a different story.
Does Marcus win The Bachelorette Season 21?
If you were rooting for him and Jenn, we have bad news that Marcus was not the winner of The Bachelorette Season 21 and did not get engaged to Jenn at the Final Rose Ceremony, according to Reality Steve. Her winner, instead, was Devin Strader, a 28-year-old Freight Company Owner from Rosenberg, Texas.

Marcus was Jenn’s runner-up. Her third-place finalist was Jonathon Johnson, a 27-year-old Creative Director from Kansas City, Missouri. According to Reality Steve, Jenn and Devin got engaged in The Bachelorette Season 21 finale and are still together.
If you’ve been watching The Bachelorette Season 21, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise Jenn didn’t pick Marcus as her winner. Though Marcus was the only Bachelorette Season 21 contestant to have two one-on-one dates—once skydiving in Melbourne, Australia, in Week 2 and another Wicked-themed date in Seattle, Washington in Week 6—Marcus revealed during Hometown Dates that he was concerned about his connection because their relationship had not progressed as much as her other three finalists: Devin. Jonathan, and Jeremy Simon, a 29-year-old Real Estate Investor from Fairfield, Connecticut.
Though Jenn gave Marcus a rose at the rose ceremony after Hometown Dates, the seed was planted that Marcus wasn’t as ready for an engagement at the end of the journey as, say, Devin, who told his family during his Hometown Date that he was already in love with Jenn and not just falling for her. That seed only grew for viewers when the preview of The Bachelorette Season 21 finale showed Jenn telling Marcus that she was in love with Marcus and his response was “you make me feel amazing,” as he seemed to hold back tears.
Though Marcus’ response could be because he was so overwhelmed with emotion that he didn’t know what else to say, other fans have noted that the fact that Marcus doesn’t tell Jenn he loves her back could be a clue to how their relationship ends.
Marcus also isn’t the Season 29 Bachelor. That role went to Grant Ellis, a 30-year-old Day Trader from Newark, New Jersey, who was announced as the next Bachelor after his elimination in Week 6 on The Bachelorette Season 21.
“So thankful for this opportunity, and this shot at love… Let’s make it count,” Grant captioned his first Instagram Story after Good Morning America announced him as the Season 29 Bachelor.
