Dolly Parton Responds to Beyonce’s CMA Awards Snub

Country icon Dolly Parton has shared her thoughts on Beyoncé receiving no CMA Awards nominations for her chart-topping country album Cowboy Carter. In a recent interview with Variety, Parton praised Beyoncé’s venture into country music, calling the album “wonderful” and noting the warm reception it received from the country community. While Parton doesn’t believe the snub was intentional, she suggested that the CMA voters may have prioritized artists who have dedicated their careers to the genre.

Parton said she did not think that Beyoncé was intentionally barred from nominations.

“I don’t think it was a matter of shutting out, like doing that on purpose. I think it was just more of what the country charts and the country artists were doing, that do that all the time, not just a specialty album,” she said.

Despite the lack of nominations, Cowboy Carter made history, spending four weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart and making Beyoncé the first Black woman to top that chart. Parton reassured fans that Beyoncé has much to be proud of and was well-received in the country music world. Beyoncé’s foray into country music is part of her continued push to explore various musical landscapes, and Parton’s support reflects the respect she’s earned across genres.
