Time to discuss my latest hair obsession but first, if you allow me a minute of your time, let me give you a little back story on this review. During the pandemic one of my comfort watches on Tiktok was Tabitha Brown. Not only did she teach me to eat a little healthier (I’m not Vegan but some of the products and foods she makes are delicious! And Auntie Tabs was the genius who introduced me to sprinkle cheese made of cashews!) but she was just always there with a kind word and some life wisdom and during uncertain times it was rather soothing to watch her Tiktoks.
Since the pandemic Auntie Tabitha has blown up! She’s landed a Target Collection, wrote a book, has a TV show, and a slew of other amazing things! In the beauty world, she created a haircare collection called Donna’s Recipe which is named after her hair. Yes, she named her hair LOL! She’s always referred to her hair as “Donna”. And that’s exactly what she named her brand.
It’s taken me a while but I finally try the brand out and I picked up Donna’s Recipe Sweet Potato Pie Extra Creamy Moisturizing Shampoo and Donna’s Recipe Sweet Potato Pie Extra Creamy Moisturizing Conditioner and it the best thing I’ve purchased in the world of haircare at the moment. I LOVE these two products with a passion and it’s made me excited to try more of Donna’s Recipe.
As you may know my ride or die is Kristen Ess Haircare and I’ve been using it without really switching up for a while now (I used to be a Carol’s Daughter groupie but L’Oreal really destroyed the company!). I decided to finally try out Donna’s Recipe when it went on sale at ulta.com!
I have very long, very wavy, very easy to tangle hair. I’m also fairly dry and frizzy! If you have curly hair, drier hair, or frizz this is absolutely for you. Or if you’re over there thinking, “Gee, I wish I had a sweet potato pie scented shampoo and conditioner!” well, now you do! Yes, it actually does smell like sweet potatoes, cinnamon, and pie. It’s sort of weird but after you use it a few times to scent sort of becomes oddly addicting. I really like it. And here’s the kicker…! I HATE sweet potato pie! Haha!
Fragrance aside this formula is just everything for my hair. The shampoo creates a really, really rich, moisturizing lather and it rinses clean away! It leaves my hair soft, hydrated, and didn’t feel like it weight down my hair. The conditioner is my favorite part of the collection! It has an interest texture which reminds me of a silicone primer or a lightweight vaseline! It’s a little odd but it absorbs easily into my hair! It also, rinses clean away and doesn’t feel like it’s leaving behind a lot of build up yet still smooths my hair so beautifully not to mention hydrates so well! I can honestly say out of all the hair products I’ve tried this is hands down the most moisturizing conditioner I’ve run across.
At the moment Donna’s Recipe is a pretty small collection of haircare but I sure hope Miss Tabitha decides to add to the collection. She’s really onto something with this formula! It’s very worth a checkout if you have longer, drier hair!
Muse Approved!
