My hair has always had a natural wave to it, but over the past year, I’ve noticed it’s gotten significantly more curly from air-drying. This doesn’t come as a total shock; curly hair runs deep on one side of my family. And TBH, I quite liked the look of it (and that I could put aside my styling tools more often). Therefore, I decided to lean into it and set out on a journey to build out my curly hair care regimen.
After watching my sister run through numerous curly hair products over the years, I knew a leave-in curl treatment was probably the first step in defining my hair texture. I have a ton of natural volume, but this doesn’t come without some frizz, and a curl treatment could give my locks more shape. But here’s one minor issue: I absolutely hate having any type of residue in my hair; it makes me feel gross.
Luckily, the first treatment I decided to try put my concerns right at ease. The AG Care Re:Coil Curl Activator came nowhere near the texturizing mousses I used back in middle school—you know, the ones that would leave a very noticeable crunch in your hair to the point it felt like uncooked pasta.

AG Care Re:Coil Curl Activator
How I Tested
The directions recommend applying the curl activator to damp hair, so I began scrunching a coin-sized amount of product across my head after showering. I immediately noticed my strands starting to coil up, signaling that the cream was instantly getting to work. If I’m truthful, I really didn’t know just how much product to apply, so I followed up with a second round. You can leave it to air-dry, but I wanted the full experience so I decided to try using a diffuser via my blow dryer to really help activate the treatment.
My Honest Thoughts
My hair definitely appeared at its curliest right after diffusing it, but I truly thought it only looked better as the hours went by. The curls loosened up a tiny bit on their own as I moved about my day, but still held a pretty decent shape, even by the time nighttime rolled around. Not to call myself out, but I did stand in front of the mirror longer than I care to admit admiring how well my hair had taken to the curl activating cream.
I still have some playing around to do with using leave-in curl treatments, but I have to say AG Care’s curl activator made it pretty easy during my first efforts. Best of all, it left my strands feeling soft and hydrated, not stiff and sticky. Score.
