How Sydney Sweeney Achieved Her Low Bun at the Toronto Film Festival

Sydney Sweeney is ushering in a new and unexpected hair trend: the ridiculously low bun. The actress sported the no-effort-but-took-effort look at the Eden premiere during the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival on September 7. The coiffure featured Sweeney’s blonde mane pulled back in a loose knot, decorated with a pearl accessory from Jennifer Behr. The ‘do felt delicate, chic, and extremely achievable.

The bun was brought to life by Celebrity hairstylist Glen Oropeza, whose client list also includes Brittany Snow and Ariana Greenblatt. Oropeza used Covet and Mane hair extensions, braiding the bottom part of Sweeney’s crown and pinning the braids up to “hide her short hair for a seamless blend,” the glam pro explained. Next, he added in The Cut-Point Weft hair extensions (from Covet and Mane) in shade Bali and Nissi. He used double sided wig tape to secure the pieces and used four packs of hair in total. To create texture, Oropeza used the Shark FlexStyle Air Styling & Drying System with alternating curl attachments “for a very soft bend throughout the hair.”

Afterward, he finger combed to “gather the hair in a low ponytail.” He left a few pieces out that perfectly framed Sweeney’s face. The beauty expert topped off the look with Kérastase Elixir hair oil and Kérastase Laque Extreme hairspray to add shine.

Sweeney’s mane paired well with her bespoke Erdem gown. The dainty design featured a cropped collared cape over a strapless beige dress that fell into a billowing skirt that was adorned with 3-D flowers. Sweeney, who was styled by Molly Dickson, teamed the number with pink pointed-toe suede pumps.
