Is Black Love Over?: The Downfall of Remy Ma and Papoose

How did we go from “Black Love” as a brand to Social Media exposing posts, cheating scandals
and alleged domestic violence? I’m just as confused as you all.

In 2008, New York Rappers Remy Ma and Papoose were engaged, and young in love. You may
know them both from VH1’s Hit Show “Love and Hip Hop,” where they put the focus on their
relationship, music and challenges Remy Ma had after her being released from Prison after
shooting her former friend.

Recovering from a six year jail sentence is not only tough in general, but it was tough on Remy
Ma and Papoose’s relationship. Love and Hiphop highlighted Remy Ma’s struggle with staying
away from a bad lifestyle that led her to her former prison sentence in the past, and how
Papoose wanted another child. On Love and Hip Hop, Papoose discussed the importance of
Black Love, and made it his brand. You can see him wearing the words Black Love on several
pieces of his clothing in videos.

Now in 2024, the tune sounds a little bit different. Earlier this week the public was woken up to
Remy Ma AND Papoose both making various Social Media posts about their relationship and
dating other people even though they are still legally married.
According to Entertainment Channel RRG, Remy Ma has been managing a Battle Rapper by
the name of East The Block Captain. Allegedly they have been having a romantic relationship,
while Remy Ma is still married to Papoose. Which is why on the social media platform

Instagram, Remy Ma says she is “ a one boyfriend woman, the same way I was a one husband
woman.”

Once the couple began to go back and forth on Social Media with various post, the conversation
began to become very heated. It was also stated that Papoose is currently dating Professional
Boxer Clarissa Shields. Shields involved herself in the Romantic War, by posting a video of her
rapping lyrics dissing Rapper Remy Ma.

All of this is very disheartening to see and hear, due to their brand being Black Love. In 2016
the couple did an interview with BET Networks as they discussed how they met and their
relationship. During this interview they both had smiles from ear to ear. They both sounded so
passionate about each other. Remy Ma said when she first met Papoose” he would never say a
derogatory word against women,” she continued to say “ he was already showing me he put
women on this pedestal and had high respect for women.”

Papoose and Remy Ma first met in the studio, while recording a song together titled “ Bonnie
and Clyde,” stated in the 2016 BET Networks interview. So hopefully only time will tell, that for
their family and the long history they have together that they can peacefully reconcile. Until then,
don’t let this situation sway you. Black Love is still alive and well.
