A subtle diss at Fashion’s Biggest Night? Groundbreaking. Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala look could be directed towards Taylor Swift. When the Skims founder unveiled her look, some Swifties took to take it as a dig towards The Tortured Poets Department singer.
For her 2024 Met Gala look, Kim Kardashian wore a silver Margiela by John Galliano gown with a corset top and sheer lace skirt. She accessorized with a gray cropped cardigan. Fans noticed a similarity between the cardigan and a piece of Taylor Swift merch. “oh i see you got the TTPD cardigan when it dropped! so comfy, right? anyways, stream thanK you aIMee :)” one Swiftie replied to Kim’s X post. Another posted, “@KimKardashian I couldn’t get the TTPD cardigan but you seem to have an extra so can I have it.” Taylor also has a song called “Cardigan” from Folklore.
Swifties seem to believe that the Kim/Taylor feud was reignited after Taylor Swift’s ‘thanK you aIMee’ released The Tortured Poets Department. The song appears on Swift’s 11th album, which was released on April 19, 2024.
A source told People that Kim Kardashian doesn’t know why Taylor decided to write the song about her. “She’s over it and thinks Taylor should move on,” the source said. They also added that the Skims founder “doesn’t get why [Swift] keeps harping on it. It’s been literally years.”
Another source told Life & Style, “Kim probably does have regrets about lying about the editing of the now famous video, but it’s fair to say that she was caught up in the whole Kanye [West] aspect of it. She was basically protecting her man. I’m sure Kim could clear up what really happened, and why she did what she did, but I don’t think she wants to revisit that particular situation. It would just open up a whole new can of worms and she’s truly moved on.”
As for the direct inspiration behind Kim’s Met Gala look, she told Vogue that it was based on “the wildest night of my life in a garden.” She recalled to the fashion magazine, And I just ran out and grabbed my boyfriend’s sweater and threw it on and had to get to work. And my hair is all messed up.”
