You’ve heard me talk about it before but it’s that time of the year and I’m my second pot of this so a review of the Melt Cosmetics Deadly Night Shade Duo Cream Blushlight & Highlight is in order! I would kill to see Melt Cosmetics Digital Dust Duo Blushes make a return! They’re my favorite line of blushes from the brand but my second favorite blush would absolutely be Melt Cosmetics Deadly Night Shade Duo Cream Blushlight & Highlight that launched with the The Nightmare Before Christmas x Melt Cosmetics Christmas Town Collection. I hauled one of these when it originally launched and since that time I got two more as they went on sale (and still are on sale). I’m actually on my second pot which I cracked open last week. I can’t even believe I hit pan on the first one as it’s abnormal for me to use cream blush that often or even hit pan on any blush due to the sheer amount of blushes I own. But I use this all the time particularly on weekends when I want a quickie swipe and go blush and absolutely adore it. It’s one of my fav blushes and I come back to it often!
Let’s take a look!
Like most Halloween fan girls and guys I thought the fact Melt Cosmetics did a Nightmare Before Christmas Collection was amazing. Sadly, I wasn’t drawn to the all of it as much as I thought I would be but I did haul alot of it last year especially when it went on sale. They put a lot of work and attention into collections like this and I’m not only talking about the attention to packaging details but also, the formulas are really outstanding. I don’t understand why more people aren’t talking about Melt because the quality is amazing.
This come in a fantastic box featuring Sally on the cover. The artwork is beautiful and the box isn’t something you’ll want to just toss out. I hoard boxes anyway but boxes like this are always ones you’ll want to keep. The little potions decorating the sides, the gift boxes, and of course, Sally make it a cute little keepsake to store the blush when you’re done. The compact is a translucent purple and also, features a photo of Sally along with a Christmas tree. The back has a label with the shade named, Deadly Night Shade, and little potion bottles featured on the label. Inside there’s a full-size mirror that has the Nightmare Before Christmas logo printed on the top and on the bottom a quote from Sally with little potion bottles printed on the mirror that says, “I had the most terrible vision”.
The blush is currently on sale for $21 and was originally $42. It’s 0.28 oz in size. This is the Melt Cosmetics Cream Blushlights Blush formula but at twice the size of the original compacts which are cheaper at $24 but smaller at 0.14 oz. I dunno but they basically squeezed a full-size Blushlight into this compact along with a cream highlighter which is full-size. It’s split right down the middle with the blush on the left and the highlighter on the right. Both formulas are cream. The blush smells like a yummy vanilla! It’s pretty subtle and won’t linger on your skin. You can actually use both shades on either your face or lips but I prefer using on my face.
The blush is beautiful pinky coral with a very subtle touch of gold and the highlighter is a sheer cream with gold sparkle. I applied the highlighter on the upper part of my cheek and the blush all over the apples of my cheeks for my look below. Both formulas have a very thin, slippery creamy consistency with a dewy finish. I think it won’t be a win for anyone with oily skin but those of us with drier skin will love how smooth and hydrating this feels on cheeks. It does wear away a bit quickly on me due to the dewiness so I tend to bring it and a brush along with me for quick touchups on the go. You can probably get it to last longer by setting with powder but I’m not a powder girl. I get about three hours of wear from it if it’s a warm day but I can go about four on a chillier day. It’s one of the easiest cream blushes to apply that I own and practically applies and blends it self. It’s also really difficult to overdue! It’s pigmented yes, but it does need to be built and you can do a few layers without the fear of looking like a clown as it looks natural and pretty no matter how much you apply. You can either swirl a blush in both shades and dab onto your face or you can dab on with your fingers. I find dabbing with my fingers works best if I’m applying the two shades seperating but a brush works best for me when I’m swirling through both and applying!
If you don’t already own it I recommend picking it up! It’s a perfect one and done blush and looks so very pretty on cheeks! Melt Cosmetics Deadly Night Shade Duo Cream Blushlight & Highlight is available now and on sale.
Where to buy
Melt Cosmetics Deadly Night Shade Duo Cream Blushlight & Highlight is a limited-edition blush and highlighter duo that launched last Halloween with the Melt Cosmetics x Nightmare Before Christmas Collection. This duo comes housed in a beautiful purple compact that features Sally decorating the front. It originally retailed for $42 but is now available on sale for $21. It contains 0.28 oz of blush and highlighter which is equivalent to half the size of a Melt Cosmetics Blushlight which means you’re getting a full-size blush and a full-size highlighter in this compact. One side features a pinkish coral blush with fine gold shimmer and the other side is a golden cream highlighter with gold shimmer. Both have the same thin, creamier consistency that glides onto cheeks with very little effort. They apply smooth with a dewy finish that has a beautiful luminosity on cheeks with a natural touch of blush! They wear a bit shorter due to that dewiness and last about three hours in a warmer day and about four on a colder one. The pigment is fantastic and can be easily built without overdoing it.
