Another picture debacle. Prince William and Kate Middleton’s anniversary photo stirred some controversy among Royal fans. The Prince and Princess of Wales posted an old photo from their wedding on Instagram and many fans questioned the decision.
“Why is he wearing a black uniform in this picture? He wore a red one to his wedding. Isn’t this the uniform he wore at Harry’s wedding? Is anyone else seeing this?” one person commented on the photo. Well, there’s a hefty reason to why Prince William and Kate Middleton chose the black and white photo for their 9th anniversary.
“Publicly, William and Kate always make a point of releasing a photo or a video, and this year’s never-before-seen portrait of them on their wedding day has special meaning. When they exchanged vows, William was wearing the red uniform of the Colonel-in-Chief of the Irish Guards,” Royal expert Christopher Anderson revealed to Us Weekly. “In the newly released black-and-white photo, William is wearing the blue uniform of the Blues and Royals — a nod and a wink to the fact that the Princess of Wales is now entitled to wear the red uniform, since King Charles recently took the rank of Colonel of the Irish Guards away from William and gave it to Kate.”
He continued, “It is interesting that they have apparently chosen not to release a current photo of themselves. Perhaps, given the fact that the world knows what they’re going through at the moment, smiling for the cameras might seem forced.”
On March 22, 2024, Kate Middleton announced that she was diagnosed with cancer after undergoing abdominal surgery. She also talked about the impact it had on her family. “As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK.”

She praised her husband William as “a great source of comfort and reassurance”, Kate added: “This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.”
Honoring those who have been diagnosed with cancer, Kate ends the video with a hopeful tone. “While I complete my treatments. My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I’m able. But for now, I must focus on making a full recovery. At this time, I’m also thinking of all those whose lives have been affected by cancer, For everyone facing this disease in whatever form.”
