Sometimes, happily ever afters are a fulfilling ending to a tour. IVE dominated the last North American stop of their SHOW WHAT I HAVE world tour at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ with nonstop energetic and unforgettable performances.
The six girls—ANYUJIN, GAEUL, REI, JANGWONYOUNG, LIZ, and LEESEO appeared embellished in their elegant and sparkling all-white outfits. Their first song “I AM” is a self-fulfilling prophecy that cements their uplifting stage presence throughout the night. “That’s my life is a beautiful galaxy / Be a writer, the genre is fantasy / A big, big stage will open for me tomorrow / So that is who I am,” their voices soar effortlessly. The whole night felt like a modern storybook as the members compared their looks and concepts to classics like Alice In Wonderland or Cinderella.
Though they debuted in 2021, IVE’s singles discography is stacked with heavyweight hits that evoke every single feel-good emotion like “ELEVEN,” “ROYAL,” and “Off the Record.” The group also showed their strong suits in their B-sides like with the heartfelt “Cherish” that offered an intimate and up close moment with the members as they “live streamed” against the IVE-stagram digital graphics behind them.
A true highlight was “Shine With Me” when leader ANYUJIN was moved to tears and attributed the overflow of emotions to JANGWONYOUNG’s touching lyrics of the group’s ferocious growth alongside their fans DIVE. The group convened in a big hug and assured each other that their love would extend eternally.
Swiftly moving from act to act, the six members also ripped the stage apart performing their unit stages and immediately feeding off the energy from the vibrant audience. Each song was invigorated with passion —whether they were glistening on the extended stage like REI’s cover of NIKI’s “Every Summertime” or pensively sitting in a garden with their charmful looks when JANGWONYOUNG and LIZ covered “Reality” by Richard Sanderson. The segment was also a tribute to classic girl groups as each unit sprinkled the set with power pop songs like GAEUL and REI’s cover of the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” and LEESEO and ANYUJIN’s cover of Little Mix’s “Woman Like Me.”
But like every fairytale, the story must have a dark side. The concert’s second half tapped into the horror concepts with “Hypnosis” and the members donned all-black outfits—a complete 180 from the all-white fits from earlier. Exuding the utmost confidence, they performed their hits “Love Dive,” Kitsch,” “Baddie,” and “AFTER LIKE” in wondrous succession.
After a roaring applause in response to ending mentions, the girls reflected on the life-changing course of their first tour and how their anxieties were eased as they performed more. IVE put their all into the encore songs of “OTT” and pumped an extra burst of energy in their latest single “All Night”—enough to perform it five times in a row with their backup dancers celebrating, dancing, and throwing confetti all over each other. The group has some time to spare before they forge ahead on more international dates in their first world tour and perform at Lollapalooza in August. Nonetheless, IVE’s story will continue with their picturesque future and all their dreams coming true.
