The Man with 1000 Kids uncovers the gripping tale of a charming Dutch scammer, Meijer, who’s accused of travelling the world deceiving mothers into having his babies on a mass scale. The three-part series investigates the murky world of the fertility industry and uncovers how due to a lack of global regulations, some international fertility clinics continue to allow anonymous donations.

With exclusive access to a group of passionate and aggrieved parents, this series unravels the twisting and turning story of this YouTuber who defrauded parents from all around the world, and how they are now on a mission to push for a change in the law to prevent him deceiving more. Here’s where Jonathan Meijer is now.

Where is Jonathan Meijer now?

Well, he’s still living in The Netherlands but refused to be a part of Netflix’s documentary, not that the filmmaker didn’t try. “I did meet [Jonathan] in order to speak to him about being in the documentary,” director Josh Allott told Tudum. “We approached him a number of times to be interviewed and gave him a right to reply at the end. He refused to comment on any of the allegations in the series.”

As for what he’s been up to recently? “A couple of weeks ago, he was in Zanzibar,” executive producer Natalie Hill told Tudum. “He’s been very transparent about where he is in YouTube videos. And from what we know, he’s not had a steady job of any sort.”

Meijer has been banned from sperm donating—he’lll be fined up to £88,000 (~$112,000) if he breaks this ruling, but he insists Netflix is the one being deceitful. “Already the title is super misleading. Deceptive,” Meijer said in an email interview published by Newsweek. “No surprise to anybody, Netflix is like any other corporation, company, focused on making money.”

He explained that the families depicted in the series were simply a small group of detractors aiming to take him down. “This little group of bullies are in no way a representation of the wonderful parents that I have helped worldwide and are extremely grateful for my help,” Meijer said. In a video released in late 2023, Meijer said he believed he spent 50,000 hours as a donor for at least 15 years.

Of course, having so many children presents a whole range of issues. “Children who haven’t been brought up together are more likely to get attracted to each other because they see some familiarities in the face of the sibling,” Natalie, a mother featured in the doc, told Tudum.

Incest, accidental or otherwise, has been shown to increase the risks of several genetic disorders, such as blindness, hearing loss, neonatal diabetes, limb malformations, disorders of sex development, schizophrenia, among others.

The Man with 1000 Kids is available to stream on Netflix.
