Liam Payne left his kin with a big inheritance before his death. The musician was worth nearly $70 million when he died and he’s set to give more than half of that to his son.
The former One Direction star died on October 16, 2024, after he fell from his hotel room balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was just 31 years old. According to Alberto Crescenti, chief of Buenos Aires emergency services, Payne suffered “serious injuries” that proved fatal before responders could intervene. “Our role was to head there quickly, give medical attention, and try to resuscitate him, but his injuries were incompatible with life,” Crescenti told La Nación. A partial autopsy reported that Payne ingested substances including”pink cocaine” – a recreational drug that typically is a mix of several drugs including methamphetamine, ketamine, MDMA and others – as well as cocaine, benzodiazepine and crack before the fall.

Liam Payne’s body will not be sent back to his home until the autopsy is complete. His father Geoff Payne went to Buenos Aires, Argentina to retrieve his son’s stuff and identify his body. He thanked fans who made tributes and memorials for his son outside of the hotel.
Who is Inheriting Liam Payne’s money?
According to DailyMail, his seven-year-old son Bear Grey Payne will be inheriting his money. The site reported, “Friends say that some years ago Liam made arrangements for his money to go to his only child in the event of his death, despite the fact that there would often be thousands of miles between them, as the singer spent a lot of time in America.” The singer reportedly left $38,949,900 to his son.
After Liam Payne and Cheryl Cole broke up in 2018, the two remained on good terms, as they continued to raise their son amicably. Liam told Glamour in 2021 that he loved co-parenting with Cheryl, saying, “Cheryl is literally the best person to co-parent with. No stress involved. It’s very, very relaxed, and we spend a lot of time on FaceTime.”
Sources told the UK tabloid site that Cheryl is devastated by the death of her child’s father. “Cheryl did her best to look after Liam even though they weren’t together,” a source said. “She wanted Bear to have a daddy, even if he wasn’t there as much as perhaps she would have liked him to be.”
The site also reported that Liam helped to pay for a £4 million home for Cheryl and Bear in the Buckinghamshire village of Chalfont St Peter. Liam later bought himself a home nearby.
Just months before his death, Liam Payne celebrated his birthday with his son, “I didn’t get any dad socks yet thought,” he said in an Snapchat video. “I’m going to speak to my son in a little bit which I’m really excited about. Bless him. He’s getting so big now. He’s a big boy and he looks like a mini me. As if we needed any more me in the world.”
